Back to School Let us hold in prayer the families of our diocese as they wrap us summer activities and head into the fall. May all parents, who hold the "first responsibility for the education of their children" Catechism of the Catholic Church (2223), be blessed and sustained in their efforts and may all children, whether in Catholic, public or home school settings, be inspired in the faith and wisdom of Jesus Christ. We pray also for our parish priests and faith formation leaders helping young people prepare for First Holy Communion and Confirmation. Statement from Bishop Paul Swain Response to Revelations of Sexual Abuse of Minors by Clergy Recent revelations released by the Attorney General of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania concerning child sexual abuse by clergy in many of the dioceses in that state and the lack of appropriate response by some bishops over seven decades have shocked, sickened and saddened us all. The graphic details reveal that the innocence and dignity of young children were violated by priests ordained to minister in the name of Christ through His Church who betrayed like Judas their ordination promises. I fully share the disgust and anger of all affected especially the victims and their families, and all faithful Catholics. Safe Environment Commitment to the Diocese of Sioux Falls ...in order to be effective in fulfilling the Church’s mission to evangelize and to remain true to Christ’s calling for us all, believes its ministries and institutions must be safe places for children and adults. The Diocese, therefore, pledges to preserve safe environments in all of its facilities and catechetical programs. Those clergy, religious, diocesan, parish and school employees, and volunteers who collectively carry out the Church’s ministries, remain dedicated to fulfilling its pledge to protect those children entrusted to her for formation in the Catholic faith. D-Camp (Discipleship Camp) is our Diocesan summer youth camp. Junior High and High School youth come together for four days of faith and fun. During the day you will hear talks to help you grow in your faith, bond with a small group of other teens, compete in all-camp Olympic games, have the chance to go to Mass, Confession, and Adoration, and meet lots of new friends!
