Respect Life Month Resources
Respect Life month is coming up in October. To help you be prepared, the USCCB has created some wonderful resources for your parish. They have also created an amazing program called Walking With Moms In Need. They have also created resources specifically for your parish. To learn more about Respect Life initiatives in our diocese go to https://www.sfcatholic.org/respectlife.

Recruiting Season for Lumen Christi
The recruiting season for Lumen Christi- Summer 2025 is now open! We are looking for passionate and dedicated college-aged young adults who have a burning desire to share their faith with the youth throughout our diocese! If you know someone from your pastorate who has that deep desire to evangelize and catechize, we invite you to encourage him/her to apply to be a missionary. For more information please visit: https://www.sfcatholic.org/lumenchristi/apply-to-be-a-missionary/.

Eucharistic Revival – Walk with One
The National Eucharistic Congress initiated the Year of Mission. We are all called to evangelize, and thanks to the gift of the Holy Spirit, we are well-equipped for this mission. At the Congress, the bishops of the USSCB invited every Catholic to Walk with One, an initiative to accompany one person as they seek to know Jesus Christ.

The National Eucharistic Revival has created simple guides to empower anyone to answer the call. You can find all the information on their webpage.  https://www.eucharisticrevival.org/walk-with-one

Please share this initiative with your parishioners!

National Eucharistic Congress Replay
If you weren’t able to attend the Congress in person, you can watch the replay on their webpage. (https://www.eucharisticcongress.org/streaming) Don’t miss out on this life-changing encounter with Jesus Christ and his Church.

Gallup CliftonStrengths Inventories – Attention Pastors
As you begin to put together your pastorate leadership teams, we wanted to remind you that we have an amazing opportunity for you to help your team members understand their own gifts and the gifts of the team.

The diocese maintains a Gallup access platform that makes it easy to invite your team to take the CliftonStrengths inventory and generates reports for each individual as well as the team as a whole. We also have two trained Strengths coaches on staff to help you interpret what the results mean for each person as an individual and as a team.

Inventories are $60 per person. Coaching is free.

If you would like to use this tool to help empower your team, please go through the diocese instead of contacting Gallup on your own. For more information or to set up the inventories for your team, please reach out to the Office of Discipleship & Evangelization, 605-988-3714 or disciplehip@sfcatholic.org.

PCL Email List
If you are a new Parish Catechetical Leader (PCL) or newly diving into our offerings, we invite you to join the PCL email list. You can sign up on the diocesan For Parish Leaders webpage.

PCL Portal
We have a PCL portal that serves as a one stop shop for all the active Parish Catechetical Leaders in the diocese. PCL’s are DRE’s, youth ministers, OCIA coordinators, and those who lead discipleship and evangelization initiatives in a parish or pastorate.

This portal houses many useful resources, the Power Hour recordings, RE curriculum guidelines and suggestions, and much more.

If you are an active PCL in the diocese and have not been added to this portal, please reach out to our office to request access. We can be reached either by phone at 605-988-3714 or by email at discipleship@sfcatholic.org

Request for prayers and penances to defeat Amendment G

Bishop DeGrood is encouraging all clergy and lay faithful to pray after Sunday Mass for the defeat of Amendment G. This can be done either formally as a parish or individually in private prayer after Mass. A suggestion would be to pray the Our Father, Hail Mary and Glory Be or the St. Michael prayer. In addition, because every Friday is a day of penance, he is also encouraging all Catholics to offer their penance for the defeat of Amendment G.

Need some ideas for what to offer as a penance? Give up meat for the day, stay off social media, leave the TV off, use the stairs instead of the elevator, or forgo a favorite beverage. Any penance is a powerful act of love.

Pastors have already received this request through the Clergy Only Bulletin Board, so please consult with your pastor if needed before general requests of the faithful in your parishes are made. Thank you for your help in this critically important time.

As one diocese, let us storm heaven with prayers for the defeat of Amendment G!

Women’s retreat in North Dakota

In today’s world, we don’t hear a lot about hope, but it’s an extremely important virtue. We will say, “I hope you have a safe trip,” or “I hope we don’t get caught in the rain.” But, do we say in earnestness, “I hope to see you in heaven”?

We invite women of all ages to join us at St. Francis Retreat Center in Hankinson, ND, Oct. 18-20 for a weekend of prayer, reflection and discussion on the theological virtue of hope. For more information, contact Sr. Christina at srchristinamarie@sfcretreats.org or 701-242-7195 or visit our link on Facebook.

World Mental Health Day

October 10 – World Mental Health Day

October 10th is World Mental Health Day.  The USCCB has created a Novena for Mental Health as an opportunity for all of us to join together in prayer for the men and women experiencing or impacted by mental health issues and those who walk that journey with them.   Please consider joining me in praying this novena for our brothers and sisters in Christ.

“The entire Church in the United States is especially encouraged to pray this Novena in solidarity with one another from October 10 to October 18 each year. October 10 is a fitting beginning as it is also World Mental Health Day. It is a time when people around the world are seeking to raise awareness and remove the stigma connected to mental health issues. This nationwide annual moment of prayer fittingly concludes on the feast of Saint Luke, patron of health care, on October 18.”

God bless,
